Guide Questions for Student’s Teacher Self- Report

(These questions use as guidelines for the student teacher to write the blog)

1. School: General Information and Academic Administration

After observation, please write a report about school general information and its academic administration according to topics as follows:

The name of VALAYA itself stands for V: Visionary, A: Activeness, L: Like and learn, A: Adaptive, Y: Yields, A: Acceptance and Friendliness




1.2 Academic support system

Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstrations School was a private school in Pathumthani, Thailand. The school is aimed to develop the student in morality, ethics, science, mathematics, technology, and 3 languages (Thai, English, and Chinese). They emphasize the students centered learning, active learning activities, critical thinking activities, lifelong learning, and build consciousness in Thai.

Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstrations School’s system supported by Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University and tuition fee from the student’s parents. The tools in the class were complete and convenient to the students could study. The school has library and laboratories. The school has multifunction hall, court, canteen, music room.




1.3 Teaching system

Every morning, the teacher welcoming the student in front of the school’s gate.



The teaching and learning activity started from 7.30 AM to 3.30 PM. But, the real class activity started from 8.30 AM because from 7.30 AM – 8.30 AM they have to do the ceremony. All of the students will gather in the school hall for the morning ceremony. The teachers and the students making a neat line, then they pray and sing the Demonstration School Hymn and Thai National Anthem.



This school had 2 levels,

a. Lower Secondary School : Grade 1-3

There are 4 programs : English program, intensive english program and gifted science-math program, standard program

b. Upper Secondary School : Grade 4-6

There are 4 programs : Gifted Program, Science-Mathematics Program, English-Mathematics Program, English-Chinese Program



1.4 Materials and other learning sources

Every class have a whiteboard, LCD. For Science class, they used many sources like main book, module, and article for their learning sources. For the materials, they used laboratory tools to had an experiment. The materials that teacher use to teach usually are slide presentation, video presentation, worksheet and others. The learning source only use text book since using any gadget is not allowed for students. Before studying, the students collecting their gadget. The teachers use a various learning sources to teach, such as text book, electronic book, and education websites. The textbook itself is provided in Thai language and English language.


1.5 Measurement and evaluation system

Based on observation, worksheets are used in the class. Students will be completing and continue as homework. My teacher in Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstrations School didn’t give me the detailed standard evaluation, but in every assignment, they always used score in scale 10, and then it accumulated with another worksheet, or test score to got the final score.


1.6 Curriculum

Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstrations School used the curriculum 2008 from the government, and the school develops the curriculum so that it matches the school cultures and goals. This is a national force for balanced human beings both

physically, morally and ethically conscious of Thai citizenship and world citizens.

Adhere to the rule, the democratic system with the monarchy has basic knowledge and

skills including the necessary attitudes towards continuing education and long life

education by focusing on learners, it is important to believe that everyone can learn and

develop themselves to full potential


1.7 Teaching plan of Biology

Teaching plan in this school, especially in Science, teachers should have to make a lesson plan every meeting, depend on the requirement of the school. Sometimes it can be a daily lesson plan that good for one day, or from last year with revision or a topic lesson plan that can be continuously being used for a whole topic. For Science class in a week the average periodes is about 3 times, which is 1 period a day or 50 minutes.


2. Pedagogical Contents

After observation, please write a report on school pedagogical contents (where you were placed for practicum 2) according to topics as follows:

1.1 Teaching methods

Based on observation, teaching methods that being used by the teacher is a teacher-centered. The teacher usually just using power point slide show for explaining the topic. But somehow in some of the topic the teacher use a cooperative learning method for the lesson. For the example is learning outdoors for contextual learning, the students collect tree name and looking for latin name


1.2 Learning materials and innovation

The learning material that teachers used is projector, laptop, slide presentation. But this technology just can give by teachers, because the students not allowed to use laptop, handphone and other gadget eventhough for the lesson during school time.


1.3 Sources of learning and technology

Sources of Learning that teachers used in the class are text book, gadget with internet connection, white board, electronic book, and education websites and for the students use only text book. But in the library student are allowed to use computers that been provided by the school for accessing the internet.



1.4 Authentic assessment

I couldn’t report the authentic assesment because the school and the teacher didn’t give it to me.

But, based on observation the learning assessment for cognitive domain could be question & answer from power point slide after explain the materials, pre and post-test, and worksheet; the affective domain could be ask student to compare, relate, and show the activity and student’s attitude inside classroom; the psycomotoric domain could be assess with make a diagram, pathway, product, slogan, poster, etc related the subject matter.


3. Teaching Plan

After observation, please write a report about school teaching plan according to topics as follows:

1.1 Curriculum

From my last report, we know that each school in Thailand, used K to 12 curriculum. That curriculum was very complete, started from conceptual framework, assessment, monitoring until the materials of each grade was already served. They used scientific and technology literacy.


1.2 Teaching plan related to Biology

The teaching plan was so simple but it contain the main step of every learning activity. Learning procedures includes preparation (review, motivation, apperception), presentation, generalization and application. Teacher have to prepare the instructional material that needed to lesson. For science, the teaching plan was easy to understand and to the point. Lesson plan in Thailand specifically for science subject is quite the same like Indonesia. There are objectives learning, activity, asessment, and learning sources. But, because of the different curriculum, Thailand’s lesson plan is simple. There is no need to write about indicators, core competency, what type of assessment do we need to apply.


4. Observation on Teacher(s)

After observing and studying about teacher(s), please write a report on following topics:

1.1 Planning for teaching

My teacher didn’t make lesson plan daily or weekly. Maybe my teacher had a lesson plan from the last year or a-semester lesson plan, so my teacher just taught without made the lesson plan first. But, my teacher always used activity as contextual learning in the class or outside class.


1.2 Preparing lessons and materials

Everyday before went to the class, my teacher always prepared all the materials that will be used teaching in the class, always bring LCD, laptop, textbook, etc. For me, I observed what they have studied and what they are studying about. So I could find the correct materials for the students.



1.3 Teaching in class

Before entering the class, my teacher bring LCD and student helped her. My teacher always asked a student to lead a greeting morning. My teacher always started the class with check the attendance. And then, my teacher opened the class with reviewed the previous topic. After that, my teacher gave the student the motivation and the value of the lesson. The teacher always extract the value from the students responses to get the meaningful value. The method that being used by the teacher based on observation is a show the power point presentation, the student discussion is rarely occur, the discussion is occur when teacher give worksheet for student and they do the worksheet in front of class. For classroom management, teacher have a very good ability to manage the class, student act differently whenever the teacher is right in front of the class. My teacher is always strict with the disciple yet friendly to all student. My teacher always scold student whenever they misbehave inside of the class, so the student respect the teacher very much.



1.4 Measurement and Evaluation

As long as I observed, my teacher used the handmade question based on power point presentation, worksheet, also textbook. Students doing by individual, also group, the teacher can give the students homework to get done and check it on the next meeting. So that the teacher knows what they have understood already and what they dont understand. They were answering Aj. Marisa's worksheet in front of class and checked it together.



5. Teaching Practice

For teaching practice, please write a teaching plan and consult with teacher (of your teaching subject). Then student teachers will be assigned to teach in class and reflect on their teaching after class. Please write a report on the teaching practice according to topics as follows:

1.1 Procedures of teaching

Controlling the real class and with different kind of the students is such an important thing. First, do the opening like greeting the students, reviewing, and warming up. First step, I had to prepare lesson plan with subject matter I choose and the tools I had to use also the students worksheet. I consulted with my supervisors also cooperating teacher about my planning for teaching, and both of them gave me a good response. The material teaching was depend on me. I choose ecosystem. Also preparing the learning media. The learning media that I used such as video, pictures, power point, and worksheets.

After that, I tought in the class. What I did in the class:

a. Asking the ecosystem question (to motivate and set the purpose)

b. Asking student what is component of ecosystem that will lead to conceptual

c. Explain the material by showing video, power point

d. Guiding the student did their worksheet in group

e. The students have a presentation

f. Evaluation for checking their understanding and review their worksheet


1.2 Time management and organizing activities

What I did in the class :

1. Asking the ecosystem question (to motivate and set the purpose). (5 minutes)

2. Gave video, power point to the student. (15 minutes)

3. Guiding the student did their worksheet in group (15 minutes)

4. The students have a presentation (10 minutes)

5. Evaluation for checking their understanding and review their worksheet (5 minutes)





1.3 Problem-solving

Beside used English, I also used some body languages so the students tried to figured

out the words I meant

For evaluation, I just used my worksheet.


1.4 Classroom management

The teacher explains and stand in front of the class and explain to the whole class using video, power point or whiteboard. They were focus also enjoyed the material that I shared. When the teacher gives worksheet, teacher can walk around the class to see their progress and make sure the students do their jobs. If some students ask, the teacher can answer directly and give them solution.

6. Summary and Suggestions

Student teachers summarize what you had done during your practicum according to topics as follows:

1.1 Purposes of practicum

1) To gain experience as a factual professional educator who have a set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the profession as an educator, both in the country and abroad.

2) To develop student teacher skills of teaching in real class

3) To experience becoming teacher and new learning outside country

4) To implement the knowledge in different society and different cultures.

5) Applying ability of teaching as a whole and integrated in the actual situation

6) To develop teachers competence during the teaching class practicum.


1.2 Procedures of practicum

1) Observation

First, I observed my teacher used methods, materials, time management, sources of learning, in class. My teacher used to ask last material, and explain with slide of power point to continue the learning process. For the main activity, my teacher used worksheet and discussed it together. Some of students come in front of the class and answered together.



2) Teaching Assistant

In this step, I followed my teacher to learning outdoor or outside class. It was more contextual since learning science. I choosed best materials, methods, and problem solving for challenging the students in my lesson plan. Teaching assistant done by following my teacher and helped to control the class.



3) Teaching Practice

My first teaching practice in the classroom with different language and based on the lesson plan that have been consuled. Honest condition in the class is most of the students still didn’t understand what I explained because they didn’t understand English well. The teacher mentor little bit helped me to translate what I explained to the students so they understood what I meant.



1.3 Outcomes of practicum

1) For Student’s Teacher

· I can improven my English skill

· I have class management skills

· Integrates the student teacher’s knowledge, attitudes, and skills professionally

· I can develop my capability, not only ability in the classroom but also outside the classsroom or the school environment

· I know local culture and work culture in an other state agencies that are expectd to be an inspiration in creating a better system in my country

2) For Student in VRU Demonstration School

· They can understand a little bit about Biology in English version.

· They get experience taught by foreigner teacher.



3) For Teacher in VRU Demonstration School

They can exchange information about learning process, materials, topics, methods, etc with student teacher from different country.



1.4 The challenges of practicum

The one and only challenge that’s student teacher got when did the practicum was in

language because not all students and local teachers could used English communicatively

and sometimes brought misunderstood between student teacher with the school society. Most of the students in the school didn’t understand how to speak English. It was really a matter when student teacher explained in English but the students didn’t understand. I used picture and video in communicative language so they can understand the material.

Also about culture, food, I did not eat pork so it was challenge looking for halal food here.


1.5 Overall impression

I am so blessed to join this program. Actually in Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University Demonstration School. I know that communication between students and teacher are the most important thing. Also the material that I can used ti explain learning process. Here, I have learned a lot of things that made me more mature. This program make me view things from the other perspective. Since I stay in Thailand for a month, and that was my very first experience living in dormitory, then overseas. I’m now realizing more about myself, my strengths and my weakness, and how does it feel when we out of the comfort zone. I have struggled and learned hard to gain best scores and experiences. In the end, I am so grateful that Allah SWT gave me the best result and I always believe that the fight, effort, and patience will never far away from the best result. A beautiful things await. Aamiin.


1.6 Suggestions for future improvement

The 5th batch of SEA-Teacher Project had well done because of the cooperation from the

university and the school, both the participants, lecturers, buddies and the cooperative teachers.

Suggestion for the future, the students teacher can implemented all the positively teaching experiences from other country including how to be a good teacher, how to manage the class, how to make a best quality lesson plan, and many other things. Can compare of both country and can improve the English skills and pedagogy. Also, for making a good communication and sharing experience, programs for alumnis should be exist. The next batch of SEA-Teacher Project should be more well-prepared, especially for the preparation of the participant’s faclities. Beside it, the host university and the participant should keep in touch. I wish Sebelas Maret University will placed again in Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University. Aamiin
